Gang War Erupts in Hubballi; Police Fire at Rowdy, Several Officers Injured
Hubballi: In a decisive move against notorious criminals, Hubballi police shot a rowdy sheeter in the leg after he allegedly attempted to assault them and escape arrest. The incident occurred while the police were attempting to detain him in connection with an assault case.
On Sunday night, a gang war erupted between rival groups within the Kasabapet police station limits, resulting in serious injuries to Jawoor Bepari, who was attacked by a gang led by Aftab Karadigudda and his associates. The clash took place at Byhatti Park in Sadarsofa, Hubballi.
The gang war, rooted in longstanding rivalry, saw the arrest of seven individuals, including Karadigudda, in connection with the assault and the gang conflict.
Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar explained that the shooting occurred when PSI Vishwanath and his team attempted to apprehend Aftab Karadigudda, who had been reported to be at Ringroad near Budarsinghi. When Karadigudda tried to assault the police and flee, PSI Vishwanath fired a warning shot into the air before shooting him in the leg to prevent his escape. The injured rowdy was admitted to KIMS Hospital, the Commissioner added.
In the altercation, police officials Raju Rathod, Palayya, and Hazarath Rampur sustained injuries. The violence stemmed from an ongoing feud: Aftab’s brother, Shadab Karadigudda, had previously murdered Jawoor’s associate, Jaffar. Despite being externed to Netaji Nagar police station in Raichur, Jawoor breached the order, returned to Hubballi, and participated in the gang conflict, the Commissioner said.
The police team led by PSI Vishwanath Alamatti, Raju Rathod, HR Rampur, Palayya N who nabbed notorious rowdy Aftab Karadigudda.
